  • Mold vs. Mildew: Mildew is a type of surface mold, typically powdery and gray or white, often found in damp, bright areas like a bathroom sill. Mold tends to be fuzzy or slimy in various colors and can indicate a deeper moisture problem.
  • A Persistent Musty Odor: This is one of the most common and reliable indicators of hidden mold growth. If you notice a damp, earthy smell in a specific area of your Saline, MI home that doesn't go away, it's worth investigating.
  • Visible Growth: This is the most obvious sign. Look for colored spots or fuzzy patches, especially in damp areas like basements, crawl spaces, bathrooms, and around windows.
  • Signs of Water Damage: Long-term water stains, peeling paint, warped wood, or buckled flooring are all red flags that moisture is present, creating ideal conditions for mold.
  • Health Symptoms: If family members are experiencing unexplained allergy-like symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes) that improve when they leave the house, it could be a reaction to indoor mold.
